I’m not going to lie. 2015 has been an exhausting year of ADHD med trial and error, sleep studies, whooping cough, and autism behaviour challenges. It’s been tiring for good reasons too, like all the fun adventures we have had with the kids, publishing my first book Martinis & Motherhood: Tales of Wonder, Woe & WTF?!, coffee dates and celebrations with friends, and attending conferences (BlogU and Blissdom Canada where I was honoured to be an ambassador!) that were rewarding both personally and professionally.
I’m ready for a nap. Alternating with using rippled chips as ranch dip shovels, while binge-watching shows on Netflix. (On Monday it will be carrot sticks dipped in tears, after doing laps around the neighbourhood. I’m tired just thinking about it.)
My kids have been staying up late and sleeping in, so staying up until midnight isn’t such a shock to their systems. They have a better chance of making it to the ball-drop than we do. But when they were younger we liked to celebrate at noon or even 7pm if we were feeling wild. I would have loved to have access to the new countdown shows that Netflix has made, with the kids favourite characters. They can choose from Puffin Rock, Care Bears & Cousins, Inspector Gadget, King Julien, Mr. Peabody and Sherman, and Project Mc2!

Nine is the new midnight (even that feels ambitious most days). Ring in the New Year with Netflix before tucking the kids in their beds (do an airport-style security screening to make sure they aren’t smuggling any noisemakers to bed first), pull out the good appies and bevvies and fire up a grown-up show to welcome 2016 in style. Or put your CPAP mask on and take your anti-anxiety meds like I’ll be doing.
Happy New Year!
Disclosure – I am a member of the Netflix StreamTeam and I receive exciting mail and other perks. And I get to say I’m working when I’m really watching Netflix and eating bonbons.
